A Feb. 19th interview published in Glens Falls Post Star gives Kristen Gillibrand a free pass with regard to the 'war'. Completely evading the subject as only a lawyer would, the Post Star editorial board also let's the candidate slide ;
Post Star ; One of the things that looms large over everything including Congress is the war in Iraq. What is your stance on that? What positions have you taken or would take on that?
Gillibrand: The war is clearly one of the most important issues for the people of this district. It's something they feel very strongly about. I am so grateful for the men and women who go to defend out country and help bring democracy to another country. I'm so proud of what they do for our country, and I want to support them, and that's why I am an avid supporter of veterans' benefits. John Sweeney has voted against our vets continuously throughout his time in Congress.
This was the eleventh question in an over twenty question interview. The follow-up question was about Sweeney's votes on veterans. Gillibrand goes on to outline a vague strategy to 're-deploy' troops (where we wonder ?). Self-determination, no claim on oil and no permanent bases is a formula, but with what basis in reality ? The Democrats and Senator Clinton have been complicit in the worst foreign entanglement since Vietnam. We're not blaming the pat answers of a polished candidate, but a professional editorial board ought to have a few more employees who ask some tough questions. With any luck they'll call this campaign someday.
