Winter of my Discontent

valley-forge.gif
After watching the announcement of John Sweeney's pre-ordained Democratic opponent, Kristen Gillibrand, it struck me that my generation (Gen-X ?) also might be represented by more of the same. As a small business person over the last 12 years, it's disheartening to see no economic vision, principled policy positions or even the hint that Liberty is preferred to Patriot Acts and Homeland Security. Instead, special interests and money reign. Despite the harsh reality of the Abramoff scandal, Sweeney and Gillibrand are engaged in a battle between moneyed interests. The only other candidate, Morris Guller hasn't seemed to gain the MSM or blogosphere's vague imagination.

As a committed Libertarian it is my hope to simply raise awareness about the party and its role in a basically two party system. Even as the prospect of third parties are threatened by impending legislation, individuals must consider alternatives to a two party regime that has foisted over 8 trillion dollars of debt on future generations. Since the Korean Conflict, Congress has abrogated its responsibility to declare war according to the demands of the Constitution. People are disconnected from a lawyer class that exists as a parasitical presence in policy, practice and power.
Having just completed a ten year retail effort in my business, I could easily sit back and enjoy more free time and life as an independent consultant. Two small children and the desire to start a new addition on our house also looms large. The fact the more business might be not forthcoming because of high taxation and restrictive legislation, creates an impetus to run. During the month of March I will be engaged in flushing this idea out and would make any announcement sometime in April. Having the support of the NYLP might make a ballot position possible. The Texas LP is running someone in every district except one. The decline of the 'Empire State' politically is very evident.
If friends and family lend support and interest, expectation for a fun, somewhat quixotic endeavor is quite possible. No money, experience or base is certainly the reason not to continue. The promise of liberty in our lifetime is.
