Barely Televised Joe

We'll remind Mr. Trippi of a glaring weakness in his other general argument. His revolution will never take place as long as two parties dominate the process. Their institutional and monetary power is here to stay for a while. This little campaign can't fight the carpetbagger with the corporate war chest or the all around numbers rich incumbent. It can raise a defiant fist.

Yet we are the revolution that he yearns for. I 'get' the technology but also realize that people don't 'get' Liberty, they have to fight for it. So while your celebrity gets all the attention and you all the credit, our little effort will get little national or state party support, we're on our own. We welcome that and will tour the district this summer in full knowledge our quixotic effort.

Mr. Trippi describes a dream about getting on a plane in his book. The other night he was in one of my dreams. After leaving a very important conference with very important people, I was explaining my campaign situation. Describing the money and power that I was instantly up against, with little or no resources of my own. But then there was Joe in the parking lot, concerned and talking in confident tones. Suddenly he introduced Eddie the fish who would head up a youth brigade in white T-Shirts. Everything was going to be all right.

Fortunately the baby woke up and I was back to reality. It's not the message Joe, its who you know. Otherwise money wouldn't have gotten the headlines today. Hope to see you in the Catskills sometime.
