The State of Independence

The editorial sleight of hand that could explain the hagiographic tripe that is political reporting might be excused given the proximity of the GOP & Democratic conventions. The 'truth' is that NY's 3rd largest party is also having a convention.

Granted, it's hard to figure out a party that courts all the gubernatorial candidates. A party that is constantly in court or trashing its own. A party that has no 'official' website. A party now bereft of its billionaire benefactor.

It is possible to relate 'facts' to the public about the whole affair none the less. Mr. Weld is spending a lot of time with them. The Yahoo Groups has Mr. McKay 'fixing' it for Elliot now that Lenora is toast. The LPNY's own Sam Sloan is seeking their nomination. Quirky, yet brilliant on some level. The Senate nomination has Greenfield & Greenstein vying for those nebulous 330K voters.

This might be the first cycle for the I's that doesn't include Golisano. All those voters who thought they registered 'Independent' might be getting notice that their party doesn't officially exist anymore. Perhaps they'll have a new option available after November. Stickin' with the Party of Principle.
