Slick Willy II

The departure of Bill Weld from the governor's race will come as a disappointment for those hoping the LPNY would achieve ballot access with fifty thousand votes cast in the general election. Others might find themselves invigorated by the challenge of supporting a true Liberty candidate.

I have to admit I bought it when Weld told us taxation is theft. No other tenet beyond the non-initiation of force seems more important then the realization that another's conception of the 'good' often simply means someone will hold a gun to your head to achieve their end. Try not paying your taxes if you don't believe me.

I'm the type of person who could live without any government whatsoever. I'll take responsibility for my own child's education and healthcare. I feel safer without police around. Others feel that someone else should take care of those things and can justify the taking based on their sense of moral righteousness. Now some might recoil and label me the anarchy next Wed. type and cry about the current abuses of the red and blue. I just said I could live without government. I understand why others cannot.

This is the current battle within Liberty circles. Do we attempt to appeal to voters based on a promise to reduce and minimize or do we educate based on the notion that life without government is possible ? Believe it or not, I think we can do both. Personally I find it easier to be an individual libertarian rather then a candidate. Why be a candidate if winning is not an option ? Somebody has to provide a third option to people with a choice between getting hit on one side of the head or the other. Only the hardcore politicos will test the Liberty candidates resolve in these matters. Maybe that's enough to keep the Liberty minded on the grumpy fringes. Otherwise at least we can say, hey , we're the only real protest to war and taxation. The Greens will only give you one of those. That's better then the rest though.
