He's Cain & Hevesi's not Able

The Dems seem to be working on their version of the good old boys club. hevesi.jpg Despite the efforts of the cagey Teasurer from Saratoga, one would do well to look at the LPNY's own John Cain

John's not only an interesting guy, he's a passionate one too. Here's a missive that he's been distributing . . .

cain_abel.jpg8 SIMPLE REASONS FOR VOTING LIBERTARIAN

For decades I participated in the field of traditional politics, including an unsuccessful run for a seat on the Rockland County Legislature and a shortlived run for Clarkstown Supervisor. I have been appointed to terms on several government agencies. I believe in the importance of participation in the political process. This year, however, I have embarked on a different path. I am the Libertarian Party candidate for New York State Comptroller. Here are my 8 simple reasons (with apologies to the late John Ritter) for becoming a Libertarian.

Reason # 1 - Congress is a joke. Neither the Democratic nor theRepublican Party leadership gives a damn for the people or the Constitution. The Democrats spend 90% of their time trying to destroy the Republicans and vice versa.

Reason #2 - The two party system is failing miserably. The Democratic Party's mantra is "tax and spend." The Republicans preach"tax cut and spend." The end result is the same. Taxes eventually go higher and government grows larger and larger.

Reason #3- The erosion of our First Amendment right of free speech in the name of political correctness. Almost daily we are presented with media accounts of someone who was fired, demoted, ostracized or sued, not because of what they did, simple due to what they said. The Constitution gives us a long list of ineliable rights. The right not to be offended isn't one of them.

Reason #4 - The gradual breakdown of the seperation of church and state. On one hand we have seen Congress, acting in the name of God,interfere in the tragic end of life decision
of a Florida family. On the other hand, we have seen school districts and local governments ban Christmas trees, menorahs and Easter Egg hunts. Where does it all stop? The late Senator Sam Ervin of North Carolina once said, " I believe in a wall between church and state so high, no one can climb over. When the state interfers with the church, religious liberty
dies. When the church interfers with the state, political liberty dies."

Reason #5 - Eminent Domain abuse. The recent Supreme Court decision allowing the government to sieze private property and turn it over to private commercial enterprise
is abominable. Your home is your home only until such time that a large corporation decides they want it, regardless of your desire to sell it.

Reason # 6 - The Criminalzation of America. The government has decided what is best for you and you had better do what they say. I have always worn a seat belt while driving, but seat belt and helmet laws are prime examples of the mentality of government acting in loco parentis. Recently, a NY State Assemblyman proposed a law banning unrestrained pets in cars. ( Seat
belts for Poodles or pay the fine.) They will tell you it is for your own good, but they count on the revenues generated by the fines to balance their budgets. What ever happened to taking responsibilities for one's own actions?

Reason #7 - The Social Security nightmare. Once again Big Brother has determined what is best for you. They have determined that an annual return of about 1 % in their mandatory retirement plan is good enough. We all know the money deducted from our paychecks isn't put away for our retirements. If Big Brother feels that, for my own good, I must save for my retirement, that is fine. Let me, however choose my own investment vehicles. If some one wishes to remain in the current system, they can stay. Give me a choice. Let me opt out and choose my own path.

Reason # 8 - The erosion of our Second Amendment rights. The politicians just don't get it. Passing an endless parade of anti-gun laws only makes it more difficult for the law-abiding citizen to obtain what he or she feels is necessary to protect home and family. The criminals have no intention of obeying any gun law. They never have, they never will. I do not own a firearm. However, considering the events of 9/11, I want to be able to get one when I determine I need one.

Few will agree with all of my 8 reason presented here. If, however, you find yourself in agreement with at least four or five of them, I urge you to make your vote count this November. I urge you to join me and vote Libertarian.
