Last Saturday, I sent messages to our two US Senators and my representative opposing the bailout as proposed in the three page memo. I have since come to the conclusion that there is no way they can tinker with the proposal to make it acceptable; however, there are things that need to be done. Some might regard my thoughts to be akin to regulations; I don't regard them as such.
It seems that whenever there is a financial meltdown or corporate malfeasance, the response is to pass a new law to make specific actions against the law in the future, or a new regulation to enpower bureaucrats which will be used to harass the honest business person and allow the corrupt and well connected to escape. Instead of just opposing this and any other bail out plan, the defenders of a free market should be calling for the prosecution of various individuals in this case in the financial markets who have defrauded their customers, broken their fiduciary responsibilities to a degree that constitutes criminal activity.
