Leave the blogging to amatuers

Elizabeth Benjamin is a focused journalist who asks pertinent questions and does her job.
That much seemed obvious of her coverage of William Weld at the LPNY convention.
When she called yesterday asking about the apparent reason for KG & JS not being at the debate
we assured her it was not due to price gouging or lack of effort.

When journalists like Bill Press or commentators like Alan Chartock assail bloggers for their credentials, skewed content or nasty attacks they should take note of their own.

The Capitol Confidential blog does function as a real time RSS feed that keeps readers and voters informed about current happenings that might not have enough room in print. The handful of politicos who feed on that stuff certainly chime in enough so that the semi-casual or serious reader pretty much know what their answer will be in the shouting match between the blue & red.

Here's an example;

EB explains: Food for thought: the results might have been affected by the fact that her name was given as Kristen Rutnik Gillibrand.

How were they affected ? For better or worse ? Is she saying the 'Rutnik' label is good or bad. Is that the reason why she has 30% name recognition. Or does the 2-1 Red majority simply dictate the results ? Only the handful of Gillibrand detractors on the Cap Blog even toss the epitaph 'Tina Rutnick' around.

Number 2: A whopping 90.8 percent weren’t familiar with Sundwall

Hey ! I say not bad for Joe blow from Niverville. If the Dems do a Zogby with 30% based in Columbia County I bet that number will go up. The LPNY has 800 members statewide. Pulling down a 10% recognition in a period of three monthes isn't that bad. The fact that most campaigns save their advertising dollars for the last two weeks tells us something.

People are torqued at Washington, having a protest vote when you do that voting errand on Nov. 7th is important.

Leave the snarky and ascerbic comments to us amatuers. It's simply not the place of professional journalists. At least don't do it on your employers dime.
