Platforms & Pledges

One of the results of the 2006 LP convention was a drastic reduction of numerous platform planks.
While the Liberty Reform Caucas is reveling in the gutting of the platform, those being accused of being anarchists or purists are a little baffled that such action was even taken.

Raising the Barr

While one of our opponents is misplacing New Lebanon, we're out of town making meaningful connections. Here's Eric with former Congressman Bob Barr at the National LP convention in Portland Oregon.

The Freaks & Geeks

Starchild is one of unique characters of the LP. He was denied credentials on Saturday in what the Nevada delegation described as 'at best petty and at worst bigoted'.

The New York delegation was beat to the rescue as Nevada welcomed and accepted Starchild to Portland.
If there is one party whose threshold for understanding and toleration should have no limits, it's the LP.

A Libertarian Congressman

The Washington Post has an article about Ron Paul.

Always a refreshing change . . .

Health Care Forum

Tonight at Saratoga Springs public library, from 6:30 to 8:30.

Looks like Morris and Ed will be considered 'viable' afterall.

More later.

Health Care Wrap

Given no news about the Saratoga event within 24 hours . . .
we'll still hope Maury comes through. He was there.

Kirsten Gillibrand is indeed a bright and very nice person.
She has a genuine desire to discuss issues.
I wish her the same success as I would Mr. Guller or Mr. Pell.

I will say that the organizers did not have a balanced panel.
There are certainly free market medical advocates.

I found the need for signing a pledge not to attack candidates personally
and to stay on topic a bit much. Considering the ad hominem effort by the
moderator against the absent Congressman, a slight disingenuous. That being enough said
here's the text of my closing statement per request;

The New LP Platform

Here's the link to the new/revised party platform
Prizes to the first 'outside' critiques.

Not a big fan of the 'cult of the omipotent state' language.

Gulp. We still need more.

Our FEC filing this quarter will be $ 9,702.85. Our total thus far is $16,150.46. Thank you to everybody who has given this quarter. If we could do 10K this next quarter it would assure that our new commericals hit the air in the Fall. Any size contribution is welcome.

Why Third Parties Don't Win

SVD at HoT hits a solid one with this article.

Petitioning can kill a campaign too.

Ed's gone, Morris almost.

Ed Pell is dropping out of the race and Morris Guller will go onto the Liberal line.

They released a joint press release yesterday.

It's too bad democracy is so narrowly defined in the modern age. When winning and playing require
stacks of dollar bills and issues and ideas degenerate into personality conflicts, we all lose.

Keep Pushing Folks

Our first batch of signatures went off to Gary P this morning.

Keep up the good work folks. This may be the difference between
a real choice in November.

Send us or Gary the petitions. We'll count and forward. Let us know
the count if you forward to Gary.

Go Max !

Max Kessler ( a LPNY Assembly Candidate in Rochester) writes to the Democratic & Chronicle:
He can't re-produce it, but we will.

Legal gun owners help protect city

The attempted robbery of Kitzel's Restaurant last Thursday is a perfect example of why it is important for peaceful, law-abiding citizens to arm themselves.

Sundwall out spends Sweeney & Gillibrand

His own money of course.

John Sweeney has spent $0 of his own on the campaign. Sundwall out spent the Manhattan lawyer from the Democratic side almost 2 to 1. Sundwall has accepted no PAC money to date.

Remember lawyers are parasitical beings subject to their special interests. Always question their
conviction, loyalty and character. Independent business people pull their own strings.

Of course we'd love some support from those who feel a protest vote is good for democracy.

Sylvia gets some Press

The Ithaca Journal has a piece about Mike Sylvia.

Gets to the basics of the LP message.

Response to 'Common Cause'

This is a letter that we received from Common Cause and our response.

Several weeks ago, our coalition sent your campaign some information in the mail regarding our Voter's First Pledge. I am writing to follow up and make sure that hopefully you received this information.

Regardless, I would appreciate being in contact with the campaign manager or political director.

The pledge itself is simple. It states that, if elected, you will support legislation which will:

- Provide public funding for all candidates who agree to take no private contributions.

- Place restrictions on gifts and travel from lobbyists and other powerful interests for members of Congress.

- Require full disclosure on the internet of all lobbyists' contributions.

As you will see from the research in the packet, the voters are eager to support candidates who will tackle these issues. We really hope that Mr. Sundwall will sign the pledge and fax it back to us as soon as possible.

Thanks so much!

BAM ! Ballot Access Musings

Despite all the flak about the Independence parasites, our effort chugs on. Despite a limited period and record heat we are asked to get signatures from a public frustrated by politics as usual.

As one who frequently engages in solution providing I've come up with some answers. Here's a few.
